I build payment systems. Currently at Exinity Group, leading funding orchestration for a platform processing over $1B annually.

I care about two things: payment infrastructure and distributed systems. The problems that interest me most are the ones where you need to move money reliably across unreliable networks, handle failures gracefully, and make systems that work when everything else is falling apart.

I prefer boring technology that lets me sleep at night. I’d rather use PostgreSQL well than reach for the latest distributed database. I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way) that clever solutions that page you at 2 AM aren’t actually clever.

noebs

I built noebs because proper open-source tooling for payment systems didn’t exist in the region. It started as a library to talk to the Central Bank of Sudan’s switch, grew into a full payment gateway, and is now used by several banks and fintechs across Africa.

The project taught me more about ISO8583, PCI DSS, and building things people actually use than any job could have. It’s written in Go, which turned out to be the right choice for something that needs to be reliable and boring.

What I’ve done

Most of my career has been in payments: PSP integrations, deposit/withdrawal flows, reconciliation, the works. I’ve led teams, built platforms from scratch, migrated systems with zero rollbacks, and spent more time than I’d like debugging stuck transactions.

Before the current role, I co-founded a fintech startup where I grew a team from 2 to 15 engineers while shipping product. Before that, I ran my own company building payment infrastructure. I’ve done the PCI DSS certification process, negotiated with regulators, and reverse-engineered POS terminals when vendors disappeared.

Outside of work

I read a lot. I like cooking. I’m currently re-learning how life works with a newborn, which is the most humbling distributed systems problem I’ve encountered.

I enjoy building community around open source and technical topics. I’ve given talks, run workshops, and spent time helping people get into the industry.
